ENGLAND - The old excuse, "Not now, I have a headache," is contrary to research that finds sex is one of the best treatments for a headache.
The Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine found that when couples have sex, the hormone oxytocin surges and endorphins increase while pain levels decrease.
The study followed 48 volunteers who inhaled oxytocin vapor and then had their fingers pricked.
Researchers discovered that those who had inhaled oxytocin had a pain threshold twice as high as those who did not inhale the vapor.
They conclude that symptoms of headache, arthritis pain or PMS symptoms seem to improve after sex because of higher oxytocin levels in the blood.
