Summertime is dangerous to the physical and academic health of Sacramento's low-income youth - dramatically increasing their risk of obesity and placing them in academic jeopardy.

Jennifer Peck, director of the Partnership for Children and Youth discusses this important topic, including information on summer programs aimed to assist low-income families.

Why Summer Learning is Important
-
Provides enrichment and learning opportunities while school is out of session

-Prevents "summer learning loss"

-Lowers school drop-out risk

-Provides opportunities for healthy eating and exercise, and lowers risk of summertime weight gain and childhood obesity
