LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Michael Jackson's doctor has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the pop singer's death.
Dr. Conrad Murray, a Houston cardiologist who was with Jackson when he died June 25, 2009, entered a not guilty plea.
He was taken into custody with bail set at $75,000. The Los Angeles Superior Court judge told Murray when he posts bail he may travel throughout the United States but may not leave the country. He must also surrender his passport.
Murray faces up to four years in prison if convicted.
Jackson hired Murray to be his personal physician as he prepared for a strenuous series of comeback performances in London.
Officials say the singer died in Los Angeles after Murray administered the powerful general anesthetic propofol and two other sedatives to get the chronic insomniac to sleep.
Murray has acknowledged that he administered the drugs to help Jackson sleep, but maintains nothing he gave Jackson should have killed him.
