NATOMAS, CA - People gathered at the California Materials Management warehouse to put in their bid on various items the state doesn't need any more.

The state surplus auction was started at 10 a.m. Saturday following two public preview sessions.

Items up for auction not only came from state offices, but were also confiscated by law enforcement and airport security.

Some items that were auctioned off included desks, computers, jewelry, shoes and pockets knives.

Officials said they will hold auctions every few months.
