SLIDESHOW: Light rail train accident

SACRAMENTO, CA - Light rail service has been returned to normal following a collision between a light rail train and a car that left one woman dead Friday, according to the Sacramento Regional Transit District.

Sacramento police Sgt. Norm Leong said the collision happened after Mary Eva King, 44, tried to get around the crossing arms holding back traffic at the intersection of 47th Avenue and 24th Street in south Sacramento.

Paramedics transported the King to the UC Davis Medical Center, where she died from critical injuries.

Leong said the preliminary investigation showed King drove through the intersection before the gate crossing arms lifted at the light rail tracks.

While she was crossing the intersection, Leong said a light rail train hit her green Honda, pushing it to the other side of tracks.

"The car was split in half by the train," Leong said.

The crash occurred just after 10 a.m.
