DIXON, CA - The California Highway Patrol was investigating a rear-end collision between a car and a Federal Express big rig along the eastbound lanes of Interstate 80 that left one person dead Tuesday.
Paramedics transported another person from the accident scene near West A Street in Dixon. The hospital staff at UC Davis Medical Center was treating the person for major injuries.
A CHP investigator said a car collided with the trailer truck parked on the shoulder of the freeway around 1:30 a.m. The crash killed one person in the car.
He said the death occurred when the car caught fire and trapped the person inside.
According to the California Traffic Incident Information Web site, the crash forced crews to shut down one lane of traffic on I-80 for two hours.
Federal Express workers were called to the scene to transport packages from the big rig to another vehicle.
