SACRAMENTO, CA - A Sacramento man is dead and his 27-year-old son is in jail accused of his murder, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.
Detectives believe Nicholas Emmett, 27, killed his father during an argument at a Marconi Avenue apartment Wednesday, said Sgt. Tim Curran. Deputies responding to Emmett's 911 call to the 2900 block of Marconi at 6:01 p.m. found Douglas Emmett, 56, unresponsive, Curran said. Paramedics pronounced the elder Emmett dead at the scene.
Curran said the Nicholas Emmett was immediately detained and questioned. Detectives arrested him and booked him into Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of murder. Emmett's arraignment is scheduled for July 7.
It was unclear if a murder weapon was recovered from the apartment.
The Sacramento County coroner will perform an autopsy on Douglas Emmett to determine a cause of death.
