WOODLAND, CA - The U.S. Coast Guard said they have called of the search for Navy Seal Matthew Leathers of Woodland on Tuesday.
According to Navy officials, Leathers was on an ocean swim training mission at Kaena Point in Oahu when he somehow became separated from his training group.
The Navy said Leathers went missing a week ago. The Coast Guard said it searched 24,000 square miles around where Leathers was last scene.
"We are still hopeful ,yes, we are," sister-in-law Gloria Leathers said. "He's still not gone. We just hope he turns up safe and sound."
Family members said Leathers was married with two small children.
Leathers became a Navy Seal in 2004. He joined the Navy in 1998. He was awarded a number of medals, including the National Defense Service Medal.
