PLYMOUTH, CA - An Amador County woman has been charged with murder after a 76-year-old man at her home succumbed to burn injuries from a fire she is accused of intentionally starting.

The man, whose name was not released, was burned last Sept. 21 in a house fire at 5150 Welsh Pond Road in Plymouth, according to Amador County Sheriff-Coroner spokesman Martin Ryan. The man had been under medical care since then for extensive injuries. He died Jan. 31.

Arrested was Hein Thi Simmons, 67. Authorities did not specify her relationship to the man but said she was first arrested four days before the fire on suspicion of domestic violence, infliction of a traumatic injury upon a spouse or cohabitant, assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm, and elder abuse resulting in great bodily injury.

Simmons was released from custody Sept. 18 following her promise to appear in court for charges, Ryan said. In addition, there was a restraining order prohibiting her from having contact with the victim or going to the Welsh Pond Road property.

Three days later, emergency responders were dispatched to the fire at the Welsh Pond Road residence. Simmons, who received minor burns in the incident, was arrested on suspicion of arson causing great bodily injury, aggravated arson, elder abuse resulting in great bodily injury, felony committed while released on a pending felony, and violating a court order resulting in injury.
