VACAVILLE, CA - A CalPERS employee accused of identity theft was arrested Friday morning after a five-day investigation.

Koren Lamar, 40, was arrested after Vacaville police investigators served two search warrants at Sacramento locations, City of Vacaville Spokesperson Mark Mazzaferro said.

On Jan. 23, Vacaville police got a report of identity theft from a victim; the person said personal information was used to apply for multiple loans over a short period of time.

Mazzaferro said during the investigation, investigators found a link between the victim and California Public Employees Retirement System, CalPERS - the victim receives retirement benefits from the organization. Investigators said the information used to apply for the loans came from the CalPERS database.

With the help of CalPERS investigators, police got search warrants for an apartment building on the 1000 block of Fulton Avenue and CalPERS offices on P Street, both in Sacramento, Friday morning. The search at both locations revealed evidence that lead to Lamar's arrest, Mazzaferro said.

Police believe Lamar was working alone and that there may be more victims.

Lamar was booked into Solano County Jail for identity theft charges.
