FAIRFIELD, CA - Fairfield police have identified a girl whose body found at a park Friday morning as that of a teen reported missing from Suisun City Thursday.

They have not yet released the victim's name.

The victim, described as in her early teens, was discovered by a citizen at Allan Witt Park on West Texas Street, said Fairfield police spokesman Cleo Mayoral. The citizen flagged down a police officer at 6:45 a.m. to report the discovery.

"She was right out in the open in the parking lot. It was still dark at the time, so it was concealed by night," Fairfield police Sgt. Rob Lenke said.

Authorities said there were no obvious signs of trauma.

By late afternoon investigators learned the victim was a teenager reported missing by her guardian the day before when the girl apparently decided not take the bus home from school in neighboring Suisun City.

Police did not say why the girl decided not to go home.

"What we were actually looking at last night was someone who may want to be somewhere else at the time and it was our job just to figure out where that could be," Suisun police Commander Tim Mattos said.

Nickolette Flynn, who lives near the park said she was not allowing her children to play outside until the killer is caught.

"Very scary. You have to rethink letting your kids do anything, really. You think you live in a safe neighborhood and then something like this happens and it shakes everything up," Flynn said.

Crime scene investigators concluded their investigation in the park and it has been reopened.
