PLACERVILLE, CA - The identity of the deceased man found inside a home on Wilderness Court in Placerville on Sunday was identified on Tuesday.

STORY: Woman arrested in Placerville murder

According to Sgt. Jim Byers of the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office, the man was identified as Robert Edward Harris, 72. Harris was husband to Colleen Ann Harris who was arrested at the scene under suspicion of murder.

Robert Harris was a retired law enforcement officer and was very active in EDSO's STAR program, Sheriff's Team of Active Retirees, in which retired police officers volunteer to assist the sheriff's office with a number of duties.

Robert Harris was well-liked and well respected, according to his peers and supervisors.

"Robert was one of our STAR volunteers and he's been here since 2007, he helped transport cars, fingerprinting children, he was an outstanding citizen and a good guy to have around the department," EDSO spokesman Sgt. Phil Chovanec said. "He was the eyes and ears of our department."

This is not the first time Colleen Harris has been charged with murder.

In 1985, Colleen Harris was arrested in the same home on suspicion of murdering her then-husband, James Roger Batten. Sheriff's deputies arrived to find Batten beaten and shot, according to archived articles of the Mountain Democrat newspaper.

Colleen Harris, who was then known as Colleen Batten, alleged she was sexually assaulted by her husband, and a jury ultimately acquitted her of the murder charge in that case.

Harris denied a request from News10 for an interview inside the jail Tuesday.
