LODI, CA - The driver who died when her Honda Accord clipped another car and veered into a tree off Highway 99 Thursday morning was a Stockton school district police officer.
Stockton Unified School District Supt. Dr. Steven Lowder said Kimberly Pinto, 39, was the district's first female police sergeant, joining the district in 2008. In her tenure with the district, Pinto had been assigned to Chavez High School, served as a patrol officer and was part of the department's community policing effort.
"Kimberly Pinto stood tall in our department," said SUSD Police Chief Jim West said in a statement. "A natural and talented leader, Kim had all the attributes to be chief one day. Kim brought humor, drive, and competence to everything she undertook. She will be deeply missed both personally and professionally by all her knew her."
Pinto lived in Sacramento and was on her way to work. The accident took place on southbound Highway 99 just south of the Highway 12 interchange in Lodi a little before 6 Thursday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
