LAKE SOUTH TAHOE, CA - A man has died, and two other people were injured after a car and a SUV crashed in South Lake Tahoe early Saturday morning.
The crash happened around 1:35 a.m. at Pioneer Trail and Ski Run Boulevard when a Honda Accord broadsided a GMC Yukon, South Lake Tahoe police Sgt. Shannon Laney said.
Three people were taken to Barton Memorial Hospital for treatment. The passenger in the Honda, William Olazaba, was pronounced dead at the hospital. The driver of the Honda, Roberto Olazaba, 22, was admitted to the hospital for observation. The passenger of the Yukon was treated at the hospital and then released.
Laney said the crash is being investigated; alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor to the crash.
One of the vehicles hit the power converter at the intersection after the crash and caused a temporary power outage in the Ski Run neighborhood. Laney said power was eventually restored to the area.
This is South Lake Tahoe's third fatal crash within four months.
