FAIRFIELD, CA - An off-duty California Highway Patrol officer was killed after getting into a crash in his motorcycle Friday evening.
The crash happened around 5:50 p.m. at Red Top Road and State Route 12, CHP Officer Chris Parker said.
A Toyota pickup driving eastbound on SR-12, driving from Napa towards Fairfield, tried to make a left turn into a home on the north side of SR-12. The truck got through the first lane, saw the motorcycle, sped up to try to avoid the motorcyclist, but ended up crashing.
Parker said the motorcycle hit the back of the truck and ejected the off-duty CHP Officer riding the bike. A Honda CRV driving eastbound on SR-12 hit the officer directly.
The CHP officer was pronounced dead at the scene, Parker said.
CHP closed SR-12 between Napa and Fairfield as they investigate the crash and the officer's death.
The identity of the officer killed in the crash has not been released.
