MODESTO, CA - Stanislaus County sheriff's detectives identified the body of a man found floating in a west Modesto canal Tuesday morning as 47-year-old Vernon France.
According to Deputy Sgt. Raj Singh, deputies arrived at the canal near Chicago and Vernon Avenue after 7:40 a.m. and confirmed the death.
Singh said it was unknown how long the man had been in the canal. An autopsy was scheduled for Wednesday.
