CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA - A 23-year-old North Highlands man was in critical condition after his motorcycle collided head-on into a van on Greenback Lane Monday afternoon.

The motorcyclist was identified as Nicholas Solano. He was transported to Mercy San Juan Medical Center, said Citrus Heights police Sgt. Eric Mattke.

Mattke said it appeared a vehicle traveling in the eastbound lanes of Greenback changed lanes in front of a van in the area of the Greenback and Birdcage Street intersection. The driver of the van veered into the westbound lanes of Greenback to avoid hitting the vehicle suddenly in his path. Solano was on his motorcycle on westbound Greenback and struck the van.

The driver of the van drove away, Mattke said, but officers found the van abandoned a few blocks away and later located the driver. The driver, Adam McGue, 30, of Shasta Lake, was arrested on suspicion of hit and run with bodily injury.

Mattke said they were still looking for the person driving a landscaping truck pulling a trailer on eastbound Greenback at the time who may have seen the collision but wasn't involved in it.

The westbound lanes of Greenback from Sunrise Boulevard to Birdcage Street were closed from 12:23 p.m. the time of the collision to 5:30 p.m.
