SONORA, CA - A high school and elementary school in Sonora were placed on lockdown Thursday following a report of shots fired in the area.
According to Sonora Police Chief Mark Stinson, a caller said they saw a person with a rifle in the vicinity of the elementary school and heard gunshots. The call to police and the California Highway Patrol were made around noon.
Police and the CHP made an extensive search of the area but found no one nor any indication of gunshots, Stinson said.
The police chief said there is a rifle range on the of Sonora and it was possible the caller heard the shots coming from there.
The lockdowns were lifted around 1:18 p.m.
