NORTH HIGHLANDS, Calif. - Teenager Kendra Douglas said while coming back to a North Highlands hotel she was hit by a car crossing an intersection.
"All I remember is headlights and flying in the air," Douglas explained. "All I can remember was a blur. I remember trying to get to my feet because I didn't want to be run over again."
The incident happened Saturday on Watt Avenue and Margaret Way. The 17-year-old Douglas said she was nearly two months pregnant at the time of the incident and the driver did not stop. She said she lost her child.
"This man took my child from me," Douglas said. "My unborn child from me and didn't stop to ask if I was OK."
California Highway Patrol investigators said they will continue to search for surveillance video from the scene to help locate, identify a suspect and get a description of the car. Witnesses in the area at the time of the incident describe the car as a black, late 90s Monte Carlo SS.
Douglas is recovering at Mercy San Juan Hospital. She suffered a broken pelvis and injuries to her legs.
