DAVIS, CA - A rash of residential burglaries in Davis since Tuesday has police urging vigilance.

The crimes were reported at Saratoga West Apartments, 2121 Glacier Drive ((two burglaries), A Street Apartments at 224 A St. (two burglaries), Villa Verde Apartments at 218 University Avenue (one burglary) and on the 700 block of Coolidge Street (one burglary).

Police Lt. Glenn Glasgow said electronics and miscellaneous items were taken.

Investigators were not saying if they think the same person or persons was behind the burglaries but they've noted that most took place between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m. and there were no obvious signs of forced entries.

The Davis Police Department offered the following tips to make it look like you never left your home when you're away:

· Always lock your doors and windows, especially when away from your home and while sleeping.

· Keep shades and blinds in their normal positions.

· Stop mail and newspapers, or ask a trusted neighbor to pick them up everyday.

· Put timers on several household lights so they turn on and off at appropriate times.

· Arrange to have yard work done while you are gone.

· Make sure all your door and window locks are in working order. Activate your home alarm.

· Leave a radio on low, or put it on a timer.

· Turn off the ringer on your phone and turn down the volume on your answering machine.

· Allow a trusted neighbor to park in your driveway.

The Davis Police Department wants to remind residents about its Vacation House Check Program as well as create a Neighborhood Watch Group for your neighborhood. Residents can obtain more information by calling (530) 747-5411.

Anyone with information about the burglaries was urged to contact the police department at (530) 747-5400.
