SACRAMENTO - A man was killed Friday night after a driver hit a man crossing the street and then drove away.

CHP received reports that a man had been hit while crossing the street on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd near 40th Ave. When officers arrived on scene they found the victim had sustained fatal injuries.

Investigators determined that the pedestrian was crossing the street outside of a crosswalk and crossed in front of the motorist.

A short time later CHP had received a call from a man who believe his wife had been involved in a collision.

According to Sgt. Matthew Burgess, officers arrived at the home and determined that the driver had been involved in the hit and run. The driver told officers that she believed she may have hit something, but because she didn't see anything in the road she continued home which was about 6 blocks away.

The victim has been identified by the Sacramento Coroner as 50 year old Sounthone Thevadaenapha of Sacramento.

The driver was taken into custody and booked into the Sacramento County Jail on charges of felony hit and run and felony vehicular manslaughter.
