SACRAMENTO, CA - A suspect was arrested on Thursday night after a nightclub shooting left one man dead.

Sacramento police arrested 35-year-old Elpidio Tellez in connection to the incident.

The shooting took place at the Monte Carlo Club on 15th and S Streets on Wednesday night.

The Sacramento County coroner said he was 36-year-old Jesse James Nunez of Sacramento.

Sacramento police said around 8:40 p.m., an officer on patrol in the area heard gunshots. When that officer arrived, he saw a white SUV speeding away from the scene. Police chased that SUV just a few blocks where they found it abandoned at 17th and T streets. Police said the driver took off on foot.

Officers searched the area and two individuals were detained for questioning. Police didn't say if Tellez  was one of those questioned then.

Investigators recovered a gun. It wasn't yet known if it was the gun used in Nunez' shooting.

A man who was inside of the club during shooting he said he heard three distinct gunshots right outside the club's door, and at that point, everyone inside hit the deck and took cover.
