SACRAMENTO, CA - It now appears Wednesday's shooting in Rosemont that took the life of a 40-year-old man occurred several hours before the man's 18-year-old son called sheriff's deputies to say he had shot his father.
According to Sgt. Jason Ramos, Daniel Cartwright called the sheriff's department around 10:40 a.m. and informed them he had shot his father, Richard A Cartwright.
Deputies responded to the scene and found Cartwright's father with at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Daniel Cartwright was taken into custody without incident, said Ramos. He was booked into Sacramento County Jail on a single charge of murder and is being held without bail.
Kody Randall, Daniel Cartwright's friend who also lives in the apartment complex, said the father and son argued a lot.
"Whenever we would hang out, him and his Dad were always fighting," Randall said. "It was always his Dad yelling at him, stuff like that. He ran away a couple of times, but I never expected this out of it."
Ramos said the preliminary investigation showed the shooting happened several hours before Cartwright called 911.
Cartwright is to appear in court Thursday.
