VALLEJO, CA - A man who works as a San Francisco Bay Area bridge toll collector was arrested on suspicion of raping a woman in Vallejo Sept. 10, police say.
The woman was walking on the 600 block of Laurel Street in a residential neighborhood 12:50 that Monday morning when she was sexually assaulted, said Vallejo police Lt. Jim O'Connell. She told authorities a man came up behind her, covered her mouth and nose, and carried her to a pedestrian walkway connecting Laurel Street with Russell Street. There he threatened her to shoot her with with a semi-automatic handgun before raping her.
Police investigators narrowed in on 30-year-old Johnie Milton Burton for the crimes, O'Connell said, and obtained a search and arrest warrant for Burton. When they served the warrant at Burton's home, which is near the crime scene, they reported recovering a semi-automatic pellet gun.
Burton was arrested and booked into Solano County Jail on suspicion of rape by force, sodomy by force, kidnapping, terrorist threats and exhibiting a weapon, O'Connell said.
