COLFAX, CA - A Colfax man will be charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer and child abuse following a confrontation with Placer County sheriff's deputies Sunday evening, according to authorities.
When two deputies responded to a family disturbance call on the 24000 block of Tokayana Way at 7:22 p.m. They were met by 40-year-old Shaun Rainsbarges holding a knife, said sheriff's spokeswoman Dena Erwin. Rainsbarges refused to drop the knife as the deputies ordered so one officer deployed a stun gun, Erwin said.
The taser left Rainsbarges unfazed and he charged the deputy with the knife, Erwin said. At that point, the deputy's partner fired one shot at Rainsbarges, striking him in the torso.
The suspect underwent surgery at Sutter Roseville Medical Center and was expected to survive, Erwin said. When he is well enough to be discharged, he faces criminal charges, Erwin said.
Both deputies were placed on paid administrative leave per the investigation.
