SHASTA COUNTY, CA - With more than 2,400 fire personnel assigned and 111 pieces of fire-fighting equipment, crews have attained 68 percent containment of the 28,098-acre Ponderosa Fire that has ripped through part of Shasta and Tehama counties since Sunday.
Cal Fire reports 900 homes, 10 commercial structures and 30 outbuildings remained threatened. An evacuation order for Canyon View Loop North of Highway 36 was still in place and no one was allowed within the fire perimeter.
Crews have counted 64 residences and 20 outbuilding destroyed.
The lightning-sparked fire burns west of Mt. Lassen, about 170 miles north of Sacramento.
