SACRAMENTO, CA - A boy and girl were placed into protective custody Monday evening after Sacramento police found the home they lived in to be unliveable.
Officers were following up on a request by Animal Control Services to make a welfare check on a residence on the 800 block of Lampasas Avenue. Police Sgt. Andrew Pettit said Animal Control officers had noted the filthy state of the property and a strong smell of urine.
Police reported finding a rotted floor in the home with dog feces covering it, cockroaches, spoiled food on the kitchen counters and cobwebs throughout, Pettit said. There were three dogs in the home.
The garage had been converted into living quarters. That is where the kids, twins age 10, their mother and her friend were living.
The mother, 36-year-old Kimberly Aller, was cited for misdemeanor willful cruelty to a child.
