Detectives seize Butte County marijuana grow est. at nearly $5 million

BUTTE COUNTY, CA - Butte County sheriff's detectives said they encountered two armed men when they served a search warrant at a Brush Creek home Monday for a suspected marijuana-growing operation.

According to Det. Doug Patterson, detectives reported finding two room devoted to growing marijuana and three pot plots outdoors at the residence on the 12900 block of Oroville-Quincy Highway. More than 1,200 marijuana plants were found with a combined weight of more than three tons which equated to approximately $4,848 million in street sales, Patterson said.

Arrested at the home were Rui Hu, 31, and Harry Liao, 48, both of San Francisco. Patterson said both men were armed with handguns and a shotgun.

Hu and Laio were arrested and booked into custody on marijuana cultivation and sales charges as well as being armed in the commission of a felony. Bail was set at $115,000 for each man.
