Bacon lovers in hog heaven over Sacramento BLT Week

SACRAMENTO - Ask 100 people in Sacramento for their opinion on the world's most perfect food, and you'll likely hear the word bacon mentioned more than once. 

In fact, so many people love bacon that Sacramento has dedicated an entire week to a sandwich crafted around the the savory, swine-centered staple of American eating.

Sacramento BLT Week 2012 has arrived, and local eateries are putting their own sumptuous spin on one of America's lunchtime favorites, with a shot at bacon bragging rights on the line.

From ooey, gooey, melt-in-your mouth BLT doughnuts, to a pork belly BLT dripping with decadent bacon jam, chefs from some of Sacramento's most treasured eateries have assembled starters, salads and sweets focused around bacon.

The event, which kicked off on July 16, reaches its culmination on July 22 with a BLT Bike Crawl and awards ceremony at Bows & Arrows in Midtown, where some of the following artisans of fine swine will be recognized for their contemporary approach to a culinary classic.
