SACRAMENTO, CA - A Sacramento State faculty member was unharmed after she was assaulted by a passing student on the campus at around 9:45 a.m. Wednesday.

According to Sac State police Det. Johnson, the woman was walking towards the University Union when 21-year-old Victor Vasquez approached her from behind on a bicycle. As he passed her, Vasquez allegedly swung his arm back towards the faculty member, striking her once in the chest.

The woman immediately contacted campus police and officers arrived quickly to search the area. Vasquez was found and held at the campus police station, where the faculty member made a positive ID, Johnson said.

Vasquez was arrested and booked into Sacramento County jail for battery and is being held on $1,000 bail.

The victim did not require any medical attention and her name was not released at this time.
