OLIVEHURST, CA - An Olivehurst man was arrested for allegedly killing his neighbor and shooting another person late Friday night.
Yuba County Sheriffs responded to the 3800 block of Brougham Way Friday night on a number of disturbance calls, according to Lt. Damon Gil.
At about midnight, shortly after clearing the area, deputies were dispatched back to the scene on reports of shots fired.
Once back on scene, deputies found 1 male dead and a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. The crowd had all dispersed as units arrived.
The man found dead at the scene has been identified as 23-year-old Joseph Stancil Jr. of Olivehurst. A woman, who has not been identified, suffered a gunshot wound and was transported to the hospital. Her condition is not known at this time.
Investigators searched multiple homes in the area where they detained and made contact with several people.
Gil says that investigators learned that shortly after units had cleared the scene of the disturbance a large crowd gathered on the street. A physical confrontation began. Witnesses say that multiple weapons were drawn.
It was then that one person opened fire, striking the man and the woman.
Arrested was the neighbor of Stancil, Gabriel Natal. He is facing charges of suspicion of murder and attempted murder.
Investigators are still looking into the cause of the disturbances that evening and what ultimately led to the shooting.
