Spare the Air advisories are based on the level of poor air quality. Spare the Air Days alert the public on how to protect themselves from the bad air conditions and what not to do to contribute to the issue. However many in the public don't heed the warnings, or may be misinformed about why the advisory is sent out.
Jamie Arno with the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District explains what a Spare the Air Day is and why Spare the Air Days are important and a beneficial service to the public.
